Code of practice

General for all translators

  • Forumtranslations only supplies translations prepared by a competent translator that translates into his or her language.
  • Forumtranslations will only engage with translator who can faithfully and accurately reproduce in the target language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language message without embellishment, omission, or explanation.
  • Forumtranslations will make every reasonable effort to check the accuracy of the final translation before offering it to the Client.
  • All services provided by Forumtranslations to its clients are treated as private and confidential. This means, all professionals at Forumtranslations and their support staff shall take all reasonable steps based on appropriate standards of practice to insure they do not reveal the Client’s identity, discuss information, or reveal the contents of their communications with others.
  • Forumtranslations does not engage in any practise, nor conduct that is in any manner detrimental to the reputation and interest of the Client.
  • Forumtranslations agrees to abide by the terms agreed with the Client.

Specific to Interpreters

  • Interpreters shall maintain high standards of conduct at all times to promote customer confidence
  • Interpreters shall faithfully and accurately reproduce in the target language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language message without embellishment, omission, or explanation.
  • Interpreters shall be impartial and avoid any appearance of bias or favoritism. They should avoid not only conflicts of interest but also the appearance thereof.
  • Interpreters shall be as unobtrusive as possible and should not seek to draw inappropriate attention to themselves while performing their professional duties.
  • Interpreters shall convey the speaker's emphasis and emotional tone only to the degree necessary to convey the speaker's messages, without reenacting or mimicking the speaker's tone, emotions, or dramatic gestures.
  • Interpreters should dress and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the dignity of the ocasion.
  • Interpreters shall not interject or reveal their own feelings, moods, attitudes, or beliefs while performing their professional duties.
  • Interpreters may assume a "secondary role" when they find it necessary to speak directly to the court to seek assistance in performing their duties, e.g., seeking direction when unable to understand or express a word or thought, requesting that speakers moderate their rate of communication or repeat. In such instances they should make clear that they are speaking for themselves.
  • Interpreters should protect from unauthorized disclosure all privileged or other confidential information that they obtain during the course of their professional duties.
  • Interpreters should not publicly discuss, report, or offer an opinion concerning a matter in which they are or have been engaged, even when that information is not privileged or required by law to be confidential.
  • Interpreters should continually improve their skills and knowledge that relate to the performance of their professional duties.
  • Interpreters having any reservation about his or her ability to satisfy an assignment competently, shall immediately convey that reservation to the client and to his corresponding liasing project managers at forumtranslations so a sutitute can be safisfactorily called in to replace mim or her.
